Negative relationships with ourselves and our bodies come from holding onto beliefs from our past experiences or trauma. It can be anything from someone telling you your nose is big, to hearing someone you are close to speak about someone else's appearance, to any kind of abuse. From there it is common for us to create a negative or limiting belief about ourselves and boom, what do you get? Lack of confidence, and in turn, a lack of self-love. This is why self-love affirmations & practices are so important, especially while changing your relationship with your body and food.
We have this running track in our minds at most, if not all times. When we are not aware or filling ourselves up with love and gratitude, we are most likely, unconsciously, talking or thinking about what we don't want, or what we are self conscious about. We are the creators of our reality, we think and speak things into existence all of the time, so why not speak/think empowering love notes to ourselves?
These affirmations and self love practices help us to focus more on the positive aspects of ourselves and our lives. These tools are a very important pieces to the holistic health puzzle. They can help us boost our self esteem/belief; inturn, putting us into our personal power.
Being in our personal power means we are self empowered. In this state of empowerment, we are more likely to take productive action towards our goals, dreams, health, and make the best choices to getting us closer to where we want to go/be.
Self-love is a form of compassion. It's so much easier to have compassion and love for others when we have love and compassion for ourselves. Flight attendants reinforce this at every takeoff "please put on your oxygen mask before helping anyone else." Make yourself happy, love and take care of yourself first, then you can do a way better job at loving and caring for others.
Self-love is about facing your fears. Someone who fills themselves with self love does not hide from their fears, their past, or their truth. They face it all head on, no matter what the outcome may be. Why? Because they are willing to fail or be uncomfortable. They always look for the positive and the opportunities to learn/ grow! Optimism is key! Asking a simple question like “how can (blank) get any better than this?” Can change any situation, good or bad. Anything can always be better, as long as you believe you are worthy of receiving whatever that may be! And whether you believe it or not, you are!
Remember this as you go through your daily affirmations & reflection practices:
Words are like magic spells that can reflect in our future. They are the first step to facing what we believe about ourselves. We may not always believe what were telling ourselves at first, which shows us areas we can look at and strengthen. We create power in our words by the emotions we feel when expressing ourselves through them. The point of doing self reflection, affirmations, and this inner work is to consciously grow and empower ourselves to become happier, healthier versions of us.
