Your entire gut's health affects your brain, immune system, the way you age, your skin, mood, the way you digest food, your ability to gain & lose weight…SO much!
The gut is where our food gets broken down and digested, nutrients get absorbed, toxins & waste from the body are carried out. Not only that, the gut is the body’s second brain! In fact, 90% of serotonin (1 of those happy hormones) is made in your gut! Serotonin helps regulate your mood, sleep, appetite, digestion, learning ability, & memory.
SO much important stuff goes on in our digestive system & it all starts with our gut!
The gut microbiome (or flora) is the trillions of microorganisms & their genetic material that live in your intestinal tract.
These guys are what’s involved in the crucial function of your health & wellbeing.
Alcohol, antibiotics, cigarettes, stress, artificial sweeteners, saturated fats, animal proteins, processed food additives, poor sleep, lack of physical activity, among others, have all been shown to have negative effects on our gut flora.
We need those good & bad bacterias! But when we’re killing both good & bad bacteria by drinking alcohol or taking antibiotics… or feeding more of those bad guys with certain foods, or by how we’re treating our bodies, while not intentionally replenishing our gut with the right stuff, we’re leaving our gut flora out of balance & unsupported; therefore, our overall health following suit.
So how do we maintain or create a happy, healthy gut? These are the things you can incorporate into your daily life:
Incorporate healthy fats, periods of fasting so our DS has time to rest, good sleep, exercise, self care to reduce stress, reduce processed food/sugar intake, eat an abundant variety of plants, & last but not least…Digestion Plus! Probiotics (the bacteria), prebiotics (the food bacteria eats), digestive enzymes (helping break down and absorb food/nutrients), all in one convenient pack that helps me replenish & support total gut health on the daily!
These are all components to maintaining a healthy gut microbiome…& like we’ve learned, overall health.
