Today we get even more intimate with our food!. We so often practically inhale our food because we’re zipping from one thing to the next. We miss out on details, heightened flavor, and even gratitude for our food when we are mindless about what we consume - which can also lead to not so wise food choices to fuel our body. By day 25 you’ve had great consistency with eating and nourishing yourself with the right foods, now let’s take it a step further!
Choose one of your meal times today in which you can be undisturbed and super present. If your location permits, even take your meal outside or into nature! Have your food in front of you and simply look at what you’re about to eat. Come into a state of gratitude for a few moments of all that has taken place to get your food in front of you. The veggies perhaps growing in the ground, the hands that tended to it and picked it, the transport that may have taken place to get into the store where you bought it, the time you took to prepare it, etc. If it resonates to say thanks for your food or set an intention over your meal that will impact your body positively, do this now. Next, take in the colors, the textures, the scents, the fine details of what we might miss when unconsciously eating. As you now go to take your first bite, close your eyes upon putting it in your mouth.
This might seem weird but choose not to chew and swallow immediately. Notice how it feels in your mouth, what flavors do you notice here that you might have missed before? Of course now, eat your food but go about it leisurely. Be in no hurry. Enjoy the meal and the nourishment it is bringing you. If you’re drinking water or another beverage, incorporate your mindfulness into the drinking as well. Notice your surroundings too! Where are you eating this amazing meal? What sounds and sights do you notice? Take all the time you need and continue to let this aspect of mindfulness unfold throughout the rest of your day.
